This unique design combines a pole barn used for storing an Airstream travel trailer and yard equipment with a timber-framed family gathering area featuring a large stone fireplace, dining space and outdoor kitchen. The barn is used as a backdrop for the fireplace and is stepped down from the gathering area, taking advantage of the sloping site while separating the “working” portion of the building from the recreational side. An adjacent vegetable garden, pergola, pathways, lawn and the existing house help define the rest of the backyard and create a nicely scaled, functional space that takes advantage of the surrounding views in what was previously an undefined open field.
