Set between the suburban edge of Darnestown, Maryland and the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve, Windridge Vineyards’ solar powered tasting room and winery production building takes advantage of its hillside location to offer beautiful views of rolling farmland to the west. The tasting room, where customers are introduced to a wide variety of estate grown wines from Montgomery and Frederick Counties, has large windows overlooking the production wing and out to the vineyard and hills beyond. The large terrace outside the tasting room sits over top of the barrel room, which is buried into the hillside. The design of the building reflects the farming heritage of the Butz family, owners of the vineyard and winery, and uses simple forms and materials, such as corrugated metal siding and pole barn construction.
The wine making facility and tasting room was completed in the summer of 2020 and officially opened to the public in September.
